Dr Kevin Williamson

Registered Nutritionist

Role at BIOVIT

Dr Williamson brings specialist expertise in nutritional psychiatry to BIOVIT’s research and advisory network. His work at the intersection of nutrition and mental health supports BIOVIT’s mission to improve health outcomes through natural vitamins and minerals.

Clinical Background

Dr Williamson developed a pioneering nutritional service at the Centre for Nutrition and Behaviour, Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH), for young people experiencing their first episode of psychosis. The service focused on assessing patients’ diets in relation to their illness and providing healthier, more nutritionally balanced alternatives.

This service drew praise from the UK Government’s Food and Health Forum, which recommended that all other NHS trusts adopt a similar approach. Dr Williamson has since further developed the nutritional care service and created an accredited training package for healthcare professionals.

The RDaSH Trust and their Centre for Nutrition and Behaviour have successfully developed, hosted, and are now delivering a series of nutrition studies and training events, some funded by charities, national research institutions, and industry.

Academic Credentials

In addition to his clinical work and qualifications as a Registered Nutritionist, Dr Williamson holds a Masters of Medical Science in Human Nutrition and completed his PhD at the University of Leeds in 2023, researching ‘Nutrition for the Management of Psychosis’. He has authored a number of academic research publications on nutrition, mental health, and peer support.

Speaking & Advisory Work

Dr Williamson is a highly engaging speaker with many years’ experience of university lecturing and clinical training. He has presented his clinical and research work both nationally and internationally, and has served as a Scientific and Professional Advisor to the FAB Research charity since 2008.

He was recently awarded a highly competitive DSE grant to fund research in the field of nutritional psychiatry, involving a formal placement with FAB Research to develop an impactful programme of research bringing real benefit to patients experiencing mental health difficulties.
