Role at BIOVIT
Professor Wright contributes to BIOVIT’s research programme at Swansea University, bringing deep expertise in bioprocessing, industrial biotechnology, and the characterisation of biological materials. His work supports the development of scalable, sustainable extraction processes for natural vitamins and minerals.
Academic Background
Prof Wright leads the Biomaterials, Biofouling and Biofilms Engineering Laboratory (B3EL) at Swansea University. He holds an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship and has published over 120 peer-reviewed research papers across bioprocessing, membrane separation, tissue engineering, and industrial biotechnology.
He is the co-founder of ProColl, a synthetic biology spin-out company focused on manufacturing recombinant human collagen. His research has been funded by EPSRC, NERC, MRC, Innovate UK, and the European Commission (FP7), as well as industry partners including Pfizer and GSK.
Prof Wright serves as Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor for Research Culture at Swansea University, overseeing research strategy and environment across the institution.
Expertise Areas
Bioprocessing and industrial biotechnology, biological material characterisation at the nanoscale, membrane separation technologies, downstream processing and scale-up, and sustainable extraction methods.
