BIOVIT Sustainability
Natural vitamins and minerals, sourced from plants, algae and fungi, not petrochemicals - backed by £2.7m in UK Government R&D funding.

Natural by Design, Not Just by Name
BIOVIT was built to solve a problem synthetic vitamins created: the food and drink industry has relied on billions of doses of vitamins and minerals derived from petrochemicals and industrial processes.
BIOVIT supplies natural alternatives sourced from organically grown plants, algae, and fungi instead — available as organic and natural, clinically proven, and backed by ongoing university research into a more circular supply chain.

Our Approach to Sustainability

BIOVIT's founder, Ky Wright, set out to build BIOVIT after discovering that no supplier offered a complete, dedicated range of natural, organic vitamins and minerals for food fortification - every option on the market was synthetically produced from petrochemical and industrial sources.
That gap is the starting point for BIOVIT's approach to sustainability: reducing the food and drink industry's reliance on synthetic, petrochemical-derived micronutrients by proving that natural alternatives, sourced from organically grown plants, algae, and fungi, can match synthetic on every measure that matters. This shows up in three places: how BIOVIT sources its ingredients, how BIOVIT manufactures and certifies them, and the research BIOVIT funds to keep improving the supply chain behind them.
Sourced from Nature
Every vitamin and mineral in the BIOVIT portfolio comes from a named plant, algae, or fungal source - available as organic and natural, and wherever possible prioritising organic sources.
That's the opposite of how most of the industry works. The vitamins and minerals used to fortify food and drink today are overwhelmingly synthetic, produced from petrochemicals and industrial processes rather than nature.
BIOVIT was built to offer a complete alternative: a full range of nutrients, each traceable back to the plant, algae, or fungus it's grown from.

Manufacturing and Certifications
BIOVIT ingredients are manufactured in the UK by Plant-Ex Ingredients Ltd, a BRC-certified facility in Bristol.
The portfolio is available across seven certifications:
- EU Organic
- BRCGS Food Safety AA+
- Vegan
- Gluten-Free
- Kosher
- GMO-Free
- FDA Registered

Research Into a More Sustainable Supply Chain
BIOVIT has committed £2.7 million in R&D funding, including support from Innovate UK's 'Better Food For All' programme and the Welsh Government, to build the evidence and technology behind natural fortification. That funding sits behind three research pillars, run in partnership with Swansea University: bioavailability and efficacy, stability, and circularity.
The circularity strand - run with Swansea University's Prof Chedly Tizaoui and Prof Christopher Wright - is developing methods to extract natural vitamins and minerals from food processing byproducts, working toward circular supply chains for natural micronutrients. Full project detail, named feedstocks, and funders are covered on the Circularity page.

Proven, Not Just Claimed
A Swansea University human intervention trial - 61 volunteers, a 30-day randomised controlled study measuring 8 circulating vitamin and mineral markers - found no significant difference in bioavailability between BIOVIT's natural, organic vitamins and their synthetic equivalents.
The trial was funded through the 'Better Food For All' programme, led by Prof Richard Bracken, and published in Current Developments in Nutrition (April 2026). It is the evidence base for BIOVIT's case that natural sourcing does not require a performance trade-off.

Why This Matters to Your Business
80% of global consumers say they will pay more for sustainably produced goods (PwC, Voice of the Consumer Survey, 2024).
Among BIOVIT's own research, 92% of UK supermarket shoppers want the vitamins added to their food to be natural, and 60% would pay more for food fortified with natural rather than synthetic vitamins (Vypr, October 2025).
Sourcing from nature instead of petrochemicals is both a supply chain choice and a demonstrated commercial one.

Our Mission

BIOVIT exists to prove that natural and effective aren't a trade-off - for people or the planet."BIOVIT are on a mission to improve the health of people and the planet through the use of natural vitamins and minerals."
